Three common misconceptions about skincare. Things you want to know.

Posted on June 13, 2014 at 11:45 AM

These are just a few misconceptions about skin care that will help guide your decisions on how to resolve issues with loose skin over the eyes and face in general.

1.  Facial exercise tones the muscle and makes you look younger.  Not true.  The facial muscles are attached to the skin and have no facial ligaments or tissue to exercise.  Constantly exercising the face causes additional lines and wrinkles to form along the musckes that cause facial movements.  Botox can assist in relaxing the stronger muscles and relax the skin over the area.  Skin care that builds collagen cause the lines to fade away.

2. Vitamin E decreases scarring.  Vitamin E is an antioxidant but there is no evidence that it does anything to reduce scars.  Chemical Peels can reduce the skin damage caused by scars.  Laser rejuvination, and collagen stimulation can rebuild the tissue and reduce the affect of scarring.  Venus Freeze can soften surgical scars and relax the tension from contracted scars.

3.  Cucumbers reduce puffy swollen eyes.   Cucumbers are water and fiber.  They soothe and moisturize skin.  The results are no different than what you get with a cold compress. Eye creams that provide stimulation to collagen are more affective in tightening the under eye. Venus Freeze maximizes collagen stimulation and elevates the lid by tightening the skin.  The eye appears open wider and the skin tightens providing a more youthful appearance.
